Affordable Luxury in Perthshire

Jessie Mac's is a refurbished Victorian manse, with 7 ensuite bedrooms, offering self-catering hostel accommodation. We are a ten minute walk from Dunkeld and only 1 hour's drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow, with great public transport links.

It's the perfect base to discover the mountains, waters, rich culture and heritage of Big Tree Country.

Whether you're looking for an affordable hostel room to share with friends or prefer a private room to yourselves, we can offer a warm welcome and a good night's rest.

All 7 of our rooms are privately booked - 3 double rooms, 2 bunk rooms and 2 family rooms. Our ground floor double room has wheelchair access, we are LGBT friendly, have family friendly rates and well behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement in some private rooms.

You'll find a cosy lounge, a large dining area, guests have 2 generously equipped kitchens, free wi-fi, a drying room and bike shed. With lots of quiet spaces to curl up with a book or to email, you’ll feel right at home.

Client Testimonials

  • Oct 2020

“Here just as Covid-19 lockdown is eased and it feels very safe. Lots of care being taken by the staff to keep it that way“
  • Nov 2020

“Every effort has been made to accommodate all the requirements of COVID-19 while still making for a relaxing and comfortable stay. Also appreciated is the commitment to being eco-friendly and the way in which this is made so easy for guests to adhere to.”
  • Sept 2020

“It is really comfortable and clean with great facilities and in a good location. The recent Covid measures are really good so it feels very safe. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need.”
  • Dec 2020

Always very clean, always very friendly, and always very comfortable. They have their covid-19 procedures down to a fine art but still manage to ensure that people have a lovely comfortable stay.
  • Oct 2020

The hospitality and amenities provided were beyond my expectations, especially during the Covid times. I felt just as safe as I would at home; all areas were spotlessly clean and there are sanitisers all around the building. The kitchen and common areas were all accessible and very well organised for a safe use if desired.“
  • Oct 2020

“Lovely comfy room. No detail is too small for them to provide. Even doggy biscuits for our four legged friend! Very close to amenities. … Beautiful area. Amazing trees and waterfalls.
  • Sept 2020

I like the genuine environmental efforts that the owners are making. Very good value for money and they allow dogs.
  • Oct 2020

Nights in Birnam are quiet and the bed was super comfortable. Location is superb; walking distance to numerous gorgeous local walks, the Hermitage (especially in colourful autumn!) and it's in a great position to explore the glens and Munros west of the A9.”
  • Sept 2020

“Located a stone’s throw from train station and the National Cycle Route 77. Beatrix Potters garden across the street and the River Tay and Dunkeld Town within easy walking distance. Location an easy 5 stars. Hiking, fishing, mountain biking, canoeing. It's all within easy reach.”
  • Oct 2020

“Lovely host Dot who made my arrival easy, beautiful building, loved the homely feel. Cleanliness top class with further accent placed on Covid precautions which were very much appreciated.”
  • Sept 2020

“The two guest kitchens give guests exclusive use if you want to prepare your own food, with designated cupboards and crockery for each room. The two spacious public rooms means that there is more than enough space in the evenings. The owners really have thought of everything”
  • Oct 2020

“This isn't a hostel... Its a quality hotel. The service is super friendly, the room is spotless. The decor is beautiful.”
  • July 2020

“Lovely kitchens, beautiful reading lounge, a secure bike shed and a great little tea room next door.”
  • Mar 2020

Wonderfully quiet location, even with a full hostel. Had a great stop over.
  • Mar 2020

My favourite place to stay, if only there were Jessie Mac equivalents everywhere. Always a warm welcome in every sense
  • Feb 2020

Excellent facilities, very helpful staff and dog friendly.
  • Mar 2020

Helpful, welcoming and attentive staff in a beautiful location and comfortable accommodation. What more can you ask
  • July 2020

“We have stayed at Jessie Mac's a number of times and it is always great to return. The rooms are very comfortable and everything you need is supplied. The kitchen facilities are second to none and the staff are very friendly.“
  • Sept 2020

“A fantastic surprise. £32 for an immaculately clean and very comfortable ensuite bedroom. Close to the 1st of many pubs and next door to a tearoom which served a large delicious full English with tea and toast for under a tenner.”
  • Sept 2020

“I had an excellent visit and tbh you'll be pushed to get better value for your money in Dunkeld n Birnam area. Very reasonably priced for this neck of the woods”
  • Sept 2020

“It's not easy to find places that are so welcoming for single (lady) travellers but this was ideal. The room was spotless, spacious and warm with a great en-suite shower. The kitchen and dining room were also spotless.”
  • Feb 2020

This is one of my favorite hostels. Great location, wonderful space, and always so welcoming.
  • Jan 2020

We stayed at Jessie Mac's over a long weekend as a small group, and everything was perfect. The staff are lovely and friendly, and very accommodating.
  • Feb 2020

Lovely accommodation in a great location. Jessie Mac's was completely spotless, cosy and welcoming. The host was very friendly and made the stay very enjoyable.
  • Feb 2020

I was particularly impressed by the focus on sustainability. I am already trying to work out when I can make it up again.
  • Feb 2020

11/10 - need I say more! Have booked to come back.
  • Jan 2020

    Lovely place, great for cyclists!
  • Mar 2020

It was wonderful after a fairly difficult day on the bicycle to roll up at this baronial style building with welcoming lights burning in the windows.
  • Mar 2020

    A little haven of loveliness
  • Nov 2019

This is the third year we have spent the weekend at Jessie Macs - absolutely superb venue for us all - a group of 4/5 families.
  • Mar 2020

I have already recommended Jessie Mac's to many others and my stay last week has only encouraged me to put the word around further.
