House Tour - Look Inside

House Tour & Guest Facilities

Jessie Mac's was built around 1864 and was the 'manse' or home for the minister of St Mary's Church next door. Many of the original features are still intact, with a turret, ornate cornices and rich old oak banisters. The whole house was refurbished in 2012, sympathetically décorated to provide a calm, warm atmosphere.

Our BedRooms - View our floor plan

We have seven bedrooms in total, all ensuite and most are named after Scottish glens. Allhave full bed linen, TV, kettle, hairdryer and toiletries provided. Dormitory Rooms - for private hire only at present

We have two shared bunk rooms. The bunks have been specially sourced to sleep even big hairy mountaineers - they're extra sturdy, extra long, with good over head space and even comfortable ladders. Good storage is a must, so rooms have lockers that can be secured with a padlock if you need to leave valuables behind when you're out exploring. Padlocks can be supplied for a returnable deposit or just bring your own.

Clova – sleeps 4 - two sets of sturdy bunks with lockers, plenty of power points and ensuite shower/WC facilities

Prosen - sleeps 2 - one set of sturdy bunks often booked as a single complete with a new ensuite shower/WC room.

Guest Facilities

Lounge

Close the shutters, cosy up to the fire with a dram, curl up in the turret with a book or choose from the selection of games and books.

Dining Room

Not just for dining, it's the perfect spot for laying out maps, games, or just catching up on the craic. We’ve taken out some of the tables to ensure that everybody has plenty of space. We’ve also popped a small dining table into the lounge.

Kitchen

You’ve now got 2 separate, well stocked kitchens. The large one has 2 double ovens and 2 hobs, 3 fridges, a double sink, 2 toasters, tonnes of pots pans and a hot water urn. The smaller one has an oven, hob, triple fridge, a full size freezer, kettle, toaster, double sink, lots of pots and pans and other equipment. Both have microwaves, freshly laundered dish cloths, drying cloths, cleaning agents and general cooking equipment.

To help keep you safe, we allocate you to a kitchen which you may share with one or two other rooms - we’ll ask you to work together to give each other plenty of space and maybe agree times. You’ll have generous separate fridge space, your own dedicated storage cupboards with separate supply of crockery, cutlery, glasses, tea and coffee pots.

We try really hard to ensure that you have everything that you need to cook well. If you can’t find it, just ask (it’s probably hiding).

Drying Room

It's Scotland so you're probably going to get wet but we'll do our best to dry you out. We've got a drying room with plenty of room for hanging gear, complete with heating, a dehumidifier and a lock.

Bike Shed

We get a steady stream of cyclists so we've got a sturdy shed with an even sturdier lock. We also have a large track pump, bike spray lubricant plus an outside tap and hose so you can wash your mountain / road bike down.

Study Space

If you’re on the road working or on a study break, you might need that extra bit of peace and quiet. We’ve got a lovely wee room tucked away up in the rafters that you can book for an extra £5 per day.

Client Testimonials

  • Oct 2020

“Here just as Covid-19 lockdown is eased and it feels very safe. Lots of care being taken by the staff to keep it that way“
  • Nov 2020

“Every effort has been made to accommodate all the requirements of COVID-19 while still making for a relaxing and comfortable stay. Also appreciated is the commitment to being eco-friendly and the way in which this is made so easy for guests to adhere to.”
  • Sept 2020

“It is really comfortable and clean with great facilities and in a good location. The recent Covid measures are really good so it feels very safe. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need.”
  • Dec 2020

Always very clean, always very friendly, and always very comfortable. They have their covid-19 procedures down to a fine art but still manage to ensure that people have a lovely comfortable stay.
  • Oct 2020

The hospitality and amenities provided were beyond my expectations, especially during the Covid times. I felt just as safe as I would at home; all areas were spotlessly clean and there are sanitisers all around the building. The kitchen and common areas were all accessible and very well organised for a safe use if desired.“
  • Oct 2020

“Lovely comfy room. No detail is too small for them to provide. Even doggy biscuits for our four legged friend! Very close to amenities. … Beautiful area. Amazing trees and waterfalls.
  • Sept 2020

I like the genuine environmental efforts that the owners are making. Very good value for money and they allow dogs.
  • Oct 2020

Nights in Birnam are quiet and the bed was super comfortable. Location is superb; walking distance to numerous gorgeous local walks, the Hermitage (especially in colourful autumn!) and it's in a great position to explore the glens and Munros west of the A9.”
  • Sept 2020

“Located a stone’s throw from train station and the National Cycle Route 77. Beatrix Potters garden across the street and the River Tay and Dunkeld Town within easy walking distance. Location an easy 5 stars. Hiking, fishing, mountain biking, canoeing. It's all within easy reach.”
  • Oct 2020

“Lovely host Dot who made my arrival easy, beautiful building, loved the homely feel. Cleanliness top class with further accent placed on Covid precautions which were very much appreciated.”
  • Sept 2020

“The two guest kitchens give guests exclusive use if you want to prepare your own food, with designated cupboards and crockery for each room. The two spacious public rooms means that there is more than enough space in the evenings. The owners really have thought of everything”

  • Sept 2020

“A fantastic surprise. £32 for an immaculately clean and very comfortable ensuite bedroom. Close to the 1st of many pubs and next door to a tearoom which served a large delicious full English with tea and toast for under a tenner.”
